Andrew Wood Talks Social Media and Brand Strategy at HYPE Event

AVON, Conn., July 6, 2011 - Andrew Wood, SVP and director of marketing at integrated marketing communications firm Mintz & Hoke, spoke with Hartford’s young up-and-comers at a Hartford Young Professionals and Entrepreneurs (HYPE) event, “Entrepreneur Roundtable – Marketing & Promotion,” hosted by MetroHartford Alliance in June. Joining him was Caitlin Thayer of Barefoot Media.

The audience of young professionals and entrepreneurs wanted to know more about how successful companies engage customers quickly and what mistakes to avoid.

“The basic principles of human relationships apply to building business relationships,” Wood observed. “Difficulties arise when marketers forget to pay attention to these principles. Not all customers will be right for every business. Social media may be a great communication channel, but before diving in, it’s important to listen to what customers are saying first. Since many small businesses don’t have the resources and budgets to dig themselves out if they make mistakes, it’s very important to think through what customers need to hear and how they want to hear it."
