Mintz & Hoke Communications Group, based in Avon, CT (www.mintz-hoke.com), is an integrated, full-service communications firm offering a wide range of strategic planning, advertising, public relations, interactive, media planning and buying, and direct marketing services.
We are seeking a smart, articulate and hard-working public relations intern with an interest in a career in marketing communications for a non-paid position. Students are required to receive credit from their college or university for this engagement and must meet the stated requirements (see below).
In exchange for your hard work, we promise students an opportunity to see first-hand what working in an integrated agency is like. We also make every effort to provide opportunities to work with people in various departments within the agency to deliver a well-rounded experience.
Past Mintz & Hoke interns have worked on the following accounts: Connecticut Department of Social Services/Connect-Ability, DRS Armor Rugged Computers, Mohegan Sun, Wiremold and many others. Interns have also worked on research for new business planning and presentations and have been active participants in brainstorming sessions for client programs.
The right candidate must:
- Have a keen interest in online and offline marketing communications and public relations strategies and tactics
- Be able to multi-task and assist in a variety of client projects in the day-to-day activities of an integrated agency
- Be articulate, personable and conscientious. Strong verbal and written communication skills are a requirement
- Possess a strong knowledge of Microsoft Office software including PowerPoint, Excel, Word and Outlook
The main tasks undertaken by public relations interns include the following:
- Assist in researching, developing and proofreading content for news releases, contributed articles and presentations
- Help us grow and track social media presence for clients. This includes FaceBook, Twitter, LinkedIn and others
- Help with media contact (includes drafting and updating media lists using an online software program, making follow-up calls and tracking results)
- Assist with coordination of special events (includes distributing news advisories, placing media follow-up calls, contacting vendors and managing RSVP lists)
- Assist with development of editorial plans and calendars
- Track results and compile news clips and inquiry reports
- Actively participate in brainstorming sessions for client projects and communications plans
- Proofread content including newsletters, news releases and news advisory copy
- Attend client meetings and other out of agency media events
Requirements
- The Mintz & Hoke public relations internship is a non-paid position. To be eligible for consideration, students must be able to obtain undergraduate college credit and provide a writing sample with letter of application
- Mintz & Hoke looks for students with major in: Communications, Marketing, English or Business who are pursuing a career in marketing communications
- Minimum hour requirement is negotiated with the school in advance of the engagement. We generally require two or three full days during the semester and three or four full days during the summer. Winter break internships are available depending on workload.
